Title: Mirrors
Rating: R
Release Date: August 15th, 2008
Genre: Horror
Mirrors was probably one of my personal anticipated movies of the summer. While I knew it wouldn't be NEARLY as good as Pineapple Express or Tropic Thunder I was excited to see an R rated horror movie done by a pretty decent director Alexander Aja(The Hills Have Eyes) Mirrors stars Kiefer Sutherland(TV show 24). Its a pretty simple plot... the Mirrors at this department store are haunted and they kill who ever looks into them.
Now at first the movie was really working for me... Sutherland is an overnight watcher of this burned down department building with the mirrors. Theres a few shocking and scary moments they truly freak me out. But then as it unfolds I kind of lose my attention.
Mirrors has one MAJOR problem and its that it has the same outline as all of the other movies in this certain horror genre. 1. Something creepy is haunting you... 2. You find out a person from the past was involved. 3. You track down this person and confront them with the mirrors. Its like you have seen this all before in The Ring or some other movie I'm forgetting. If the movie was just about mirrors messing with Sutherland and his friends and family I would have been WAY more happier. But no... they use that simple lame formula.
The gore is decent but some CGI is pretty noticeable. The movie started pretty good but goes down rather fast. Now it doesn't bomb as bad as Shutter,Ring,One Missed Call or any of those crappy remakes. But it still could have held its own abit better.
The ending was rather cool but wasn't to shocking. I think this movie was just a tad better then most remakes out there but still isn't anything amazing. In a summer full of comic book movies this was nice for a change..but it should have been alot better.
I give Mirrors a 7.5/10
